Statement by Christa A. Reinert as a
Candidate for Election to the Mercer Town Board
I am running for Mercer Town
Supervisor as a 22 year resident of Mercer and a 19 year business owner. I have been very active in our community from
the beginning, as a Chamber of Commerce director and member, Chairperson of the
4th of July committee and Community Softball program, active Mercer Loons Motorcycle
member and a member of the Mercer School Board of Education. My Mercer community involvement has helped
prepare me to represent Mercer as your Town Supervisor.
I have seen the great improvements
our town has completed including the downtown road and infrastructure upgrades,
the bicycle path and industrial park construction. While these are crucial improvements, I feel
these are not enough as our town falls short in providing sufficient living
wage jobs and affordable housing. As a
supervisor I would like to address further incentives to bring businesses to
our industrial park and address the lack of affordable housing.
Continuing to improve and offer
affordable telecommunications for residents to work from home is a must as
well. The town needs to work more cohesively with the Chamber of Commerce by
investing more in promoting our number one industry, Tourism.
A brief outline of my concerns with
town board operations include but are not limited to the following;
1)
Myself and many residents are concerned with the judgement this board
exhibited with rerouting, resurfacing and guard railing two town roads did not
need the repairs and those repairs created a more hazardous intersection. Yet there are many town roads that need
legitimate repair.
2)
I am concerned with the majority of the current board resisting
advancements in progressive infrastructure, initially denying the Free Solar
Panel system presented by the Friends of the LIbrary and the continued denial
of a Green Cemetery, which was proposed by a local family.
3)
I requested a Comprehensive Plan for Mercer Parks and I was told it does
not exist, yet there have been many expensive upgrades completed.
I have only touched on a few issues I
would like to address as your Town Supervisor, but I feel the need for a Mercer
Area Comprehensive plan to address all of the items I have mentioned, and I
think it starts with Accountability and Transparency as every board serving
taxpayers should operate in this manner.
I would appreciate your vote on
February 19, allowing me to ask for your vote at the April 2 election. I have dedicated myself to the Mercer
Taxpayers as your School Board representative, spending countless hours
researching our school and asking tough questions and I guarantee each of you I
will do the same if elected as your Mercer Town Supervisor.
I will have commentary and my views
available on “Mercer election news.blogspot.com” soon.
Thank you for your consideration
Christa Reinert
